PUERTO RICO TO HOST INTERNATIONAL SENIOR AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP DURING THE FALL 2017

Puerto Rico to host International Senior Amateur Championship during the fall

PRGA founder James J. Teale to be recognized by the Puerto Rico Senior Golf League

San Juan, PR- After various conversations, meetings for brainstorming and a final agreement by its Board of Directors, the Puerto Rico Senior Golf League officially announced that it will be hosting during 2017 the Puerto Rico Senior International Golf Championship. Scheduled to take place during the first week of October, (3-7) at Coco Beach Golf Club in Río Grande, PR (home of the PGA TOUR's PR Open) the PRSIGC will be a 3-day, 54-hole, 4-player, stroke-play net team championship that will be complemented with a corporate field as a first time & "unique" networking opportunity for local private companies with the international community.

"The Puerto Rico Senior Golf League is very excited and enthusiastic about getting involved with this level of organization and this type of event, while also enjoying the opportunity to have Mr. Teale to be part of the Organizing Committee and being very positive about the event outreach", commented Angel "Jr." Colón, president of the PRSGL in reference to the event. "Our goals and plans are beyond organizing another golf championship, but perhaps being able to use relationships within the golf industry worldwide that Mr. Teale, as well as Sidney Wolf as presidente of the PRGA and a member of the IGF's Executive Committee developed over the years. All of the above in order to leave a legacy towards Puerto Rico's economy throughout our sport", he added.

The amateur golf event, aimed towards the "senior golfers ages 50 & above & teams of the world" looks forward to bring back to stage the original event that was once organized and succesfully hosted for ten years by PRGA's founder James J. Teale between 1979 and 1991. His numerous efforts and commitment to provide Puerto Rico with exposure and active participation within the International Golfing Community for more than 50'+ years are been recognized with the International Team Trophy being named after him.

In reference to his involvement in reviving the Senior International Championship he organized in the past, Mr. James J. Teale commented; "I'm very honored and pleased to join the PRSIGC Staff in order to welcome the teams who will come from all over the world to our beloved Puerto Rico in order to participate in our championship being organized and enhanced in order to become a "Senior Amateur Golf Major".

Considering the support and collaboration by the local government agencies, the private sector, the host city of Rio Grande, the international golf industrys leaders and over 600 hundred members of the PRSGL, this event will be without any doubt An "Unforgettable Golf and Leisure Experience in the Caribbean" for both the international visitors as well as the local players as ambassadors of Puerto Rico.
