Golf in Venezuela

In 1951, golfers from Caracas Country Club registered the Asociación Venezolana de Golf (AVG).  The association was founded by Dr. Carlos Eduardo Frías.  In 1958, after a reform of its bylaws,  AVG changed its name to Federación Venezolana de Golf (FVG), and became a member of the World Amateur Golf Council as well as of Federación Sudamericana de Golf (FSG).
At present, golf course development in the country is at a standstill due to national economic problems (high inflation and recession) and lack of investment because of doubts about risk of expropriation from public authorities

The first golf course in Venezuela was Caracas Golf Club, located in Las Barrancas, Caracas. The course was established on February 13, 1918.  Afterwards, on May 16, 1923, its name was changed to Caracas Country Club.

In Venezuela there are 30 golf courses, 23 are open and seven have been closed by the government. Among the 23 open golf courses, there are twelve 9-hole golf courses and eleven 18-hole golf courses.
