Golf in Latvia

Golf is still a new sport in Latvia.  Only in recent years, with the development of a strong junior program,
gave a real reason to be optimistic about future growth.  A notable moment in history was the opening of
Ozo Golf Club - a top tier 18-hole course - in 2002.   The enthusiasm of the local people helps to maintain a reasonable number of meadow courses and promote playing golf in local communities away from capital of Riga.

The first golf course in Latvia opened on July 11, 1998.  Viesturi is located in Jaunmarupe, in close vicinity to the capital of Riga (approx 20 km).  The project was financed by Latvian Venezuela Peteris Vanags. The course is still operating 9-holes.
